"11 years-old, I was invited into a ballet class after my less than remarkable run with an acrobatics class. I swooned with 11 year-old delight, instantly falling in love with the music, the positions, moving my body through space with simultaneous control and abandonment. I also adored the mentor relationship that developed with my ballet and jazz teacher. I was an exceedingly timid child but found an immediate passion that colored me to boldness when I danced. After winning consecutive "high score" in several national dance competitions and receiving a number of national teen dance titles, I was awarded a Governor's School scholarship in high school. I attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, on a full dance scholarship, and was awarded two fellowships to study at Alvin Ailey Dance School in NYC. I graduated with a B.F.A in Dance and a B.A. in Advertising. While at SMU, I performed featured roles in Paul Taylor's "Esplanade," Balanchine's "Concerto Barocco" (pas de deux), Martha Graham's "Divergence of Angels" (Yellow) and Moses Pendelton's "Bonsai".
Since that time I have been featured in works by Ann Reinking, Susana Linka, Jeanne Ruddy, Kun Yang Lin, Nai-Ni Chen, Francesca Harper, Kip Martin, Zvi Goetheiner, Jane Comfort, Fred Ho, Matthew Neenan and Meredith Rainey.
I currently dance with Meredith Rainey's contemporary ballet company Carbon Dance Theatre, where I am also Artistic Associate. Meredith Rainey and I recently won the 2011 A.W.A.R.D.S competition for professional dance companys performing a pas de deux, "this is it/it is this". We will be featured in a documentary airing on MINDTV in October.
I hosted and taught 8 segments of ballet on Comcast's on Demand's "get up and dance." I also perform regularly for the Opera Company of Philadelphia, where I most recently was a featured dancer and served as dance captain for Bizet's "Carmen".
